We have a good idea of our Bertie Charles Forbes (1880 - 1954) legacy just through the title of the magazine he created. The financial writer made the start in his native country of Scotland where he started his career as a journalist following having graduated from the current University of Dundee. He worked as a reporter and editor of newspapers in both Scotland as well as South Africa before immigrating to the United States in 1904 when the age was 24. After arriving living in New York City, Forbes continued to work in journalism until he eventually was offered a columnist job in Hearst as the finance editor of the morning newspaper. The column he wrote for until 1942, while pursuing various editor positions as well as his own company, a financial magazine called Forbes in 1917.Forbes wrote a number of books and won numerous awards throughout his career, including being named "a advocate for the past 50 years of freedom and moral business practices."
